CSSP Data Center Website:
CSSP programs are guided by health services research. CSSP has been quietly building the analytical health services research tools used to inform policy makers http://www.unc.edu/cssp/datacenter Leveraging its home at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the CSSP team uses analytical tools ranging from GIS mapping to statistical analysis to identify populations of reservist and veterans who are geographically remote from DoD or Veterans Affairs health systems. CSSP researchers provide answers on pertinent policy questions about adequacy and access to services from the VA, or the ratio of reservist to mental health providers in a given county. No one else is providing this comprehensive demographic analysis. Having in-house analysis allows CSSP to help its partners target training and other interventions to the needs of the community.

CSSP Facebook Page:
CSSP has created a Facebook page N.C. Citizen Soldier – Things I wish I had known, where servicemembers and their loved ones can posts comments, pictures, and even home videos to share advice for a successful reintegration process. We invite everyone from the community to join us. click here.

LCDR Erin Simmons’ Ph.D Rules of Thumb for Successful Deployment Reunions:

  • Beware the fairytale! Don’t expect life to be perfect.
  • Make realistic expectations and be patient.
  • Avoid "pissing contests!"
  • Use good timing! If you want someone to hear what you are saying, say it when they are listening.
  • Avoid the "stupid questions."
  • Thank each other!
